A 100 word summary on - The Darwin Bombing WW2
The bombing of Darwin on the 19th of February 1942 was the first and the largest attack on Australia mounted by a foreign power. On this day 242 Japanese aircrafts attacked ships in the Darwin Harbor and the two airfield the town had, but the town was only lightly defended. They did this in attempts to stop the Allies from using them as bases to contest the invasions of Timor and Java. There were more bombs dropped on Darwin than used to attack Pearl Harbor. The air raids on Darwin had a psychological change to the Australian population, several weeks after the attack of Japan had begun.
