This allowed Joseph Edwards to leave the reservation or mission to go to work. Explain what the additional benefits were. Do you think they sound like benefits? Why or Why not? Explain your answer.
The additional benefits of the Document were allowing him to be able to walk through the streets freely without being arrested, be able to enter hotels/bars, with curfew, but this doesn't assure that he will be served. This would have been considered a benefit for him, but I don't consider it a benefit just to have someone be able to have basic human rights, this including just being able to walk around the street without being arrested while having someone watch over you the whole time.
Looking at the special conditions right down your opinion in detail of each point from a justice perspective.
The special conditions Joseph was under were to not speak any of his native language, engage in his native culture dances, ritual or native customs and to not associate himself with any fellow indigenous people including family. Not being able to speak his native language he was raised to speak would have been hard to speak an entirely new language because English was not spoken throughout the indigenous people and it was not their natural spoken language. If he were to see a relative he wouldn't have been able to even say hello without being taken back and the document being destroyed.

Assimilate means to become similar to part of a larger whole, in this case the Australians intended for the Aboriginals to become an 'Australian' or to adapt to the Australia culture leaving behind their Aboriginal traditions and ways of living.

Do you think Joseph would appreciate the chance to live like a white man?
I believe that Joseph would appreciate to be to live like a white man after living by a piece of paper for a matter of time. Joseph i believe would also live to still live as a black man he would just want the right and freedom that come with being a white man. He would also want to be accepted for who he is not who he has to be to be accepted.
Why do you think SBS is publishing old documents like these?
To raise awareness of the truth that lies in Australia's past, which consists of the discrimination of races. SBS is also publishing these documents to advocate the change in which we can make in the future according to the mistakes Australia's made in the past. It's important for Australia to make up for the terrifying damage that we caused to generations of Aboriginals, but it is even more important to learn from Australia's past to choose more appropriate actions in the future instead of repeating history.
